Welcome to Numbers Bee:

National Bee Inc., a Delaware Non-Profit organization, plans to run the 13th Annual DE Numbers Bee on May 02, 2015. Numbers Bee is a tournament for Delaware students in Grades 3 - 8. The tournament will take place at John Dickinson High School, Wilmington, DE 19808. We have had ten very successful tournaments in DE. To see the reviews and pictures of the previous tournaments, please visit our website at www.NationalBee.org.

The use of this program has improved students' numerical, communication, computational, and problem-solving skills. It has also been an effective teaching tool in attracting students who are discouraged by non-technological approaches to mathematics.

There are Bees for other disciplines that have national competitions. The Spelling Bee draws nationwide media attention in the Spring, and the Geography Bee tests students' knowledge of geography and current events. Until now, there has been no competition to challenge and stimulate the interest of students in mathematics, and Numbers Bee, the first online math tournament, will fill this gap. Numbers Bee makes it possible for several players to compete with each other over the Internet, without having to be in the same location. All players are presented with a set of problems simultaneously from a central server. Students are given a set of numbers and operators (+, -, x, ÷ ) and a desired result. They are expected to find one of several solutions to this problem. The time taken by a player to solve a specific problem is inversely proportional to his/her fluency in solving a problem set, and is used to judge individual and team winners. The game has 24 levels of gradually increasing complexity, so both practice and competition can be tailored to a student's grade level and aptitude.
